About British-Russian Innovation Network
The British-Russian Innovation Network (BRIN) was started in 2005 as a project funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office through the Global Opportunities Fund. The BRIN project was aimed at promoting science and innovation collaboration with developed and emerging markets for the benefit of the UK's knowledge economy and to build S&I capacity to strengthen the global economy.

BRIN operated as a tool for building technological partnerships between UK and Russia; it associated 16 Russian organisations – members of RTTN, - and 13 partner organizations from UK Innovation Relay Centres (see “Partners”).

Implementation of the BRIN resulted in
• creation of an efficient channel and development of procedures for direct communications between RF and UK innovation organisations operating in technology transfer and commercialisation area;
• identification of priority technology areas for collaboration between RF and UK regions;
• assistance to RTTN members in establishing direct contacts with British companies interested in co-operation with Russia;
• training workshops focused at knowledge transfer and transfer of good practice to participating organisations of the Russian innovation infrastructure, and
• further knowledge transfer to Russian innovators – clients and partners of regional RTTN members.

Activities implemented within the project:
• a number of training workshops focused at enhancing the skills of the BRIN member organisations in the area of transnational technology transfer;
• a training in the UK for representatives of the BRIN member organisations staff that included practical work in British IRCs;
• over 280 UK technology offers and requests and over 140 Russian ones disseminated among BRIN clients;
• over 60 expressions of interest received;
• 7 bilateral negotiations on potential co-operation. Three more are suspended because of completion of IRC contracts in March 2008.
• two UK-RF conferences held in Moscow - see more information and materials in “Calendar of events”.
